Bio

Born a New Englander, Paula Stoeke now lives in the Rustic Canyon area of Santa Monica, California. Exhibitions of Stoeke’s photography have traveled widely in the US and Europe.  The exhibition Myth & Memory debuted in Rome and subsequently traveled to Monte Carlo and then Palermo, Sicily.  The collection of equine images have been on view in galleries in California and Florida and the exhibition is set to tour the “cowboy states” of Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho.  Stoeke’s fine art photographic work is held in private collections internationally.

A photographer and painter, Stoeke has used these two media to express her appreciation for and interest in ancient symbols, alchemy, mythology, storytelling and Jungian thought.  Images are printed on heavy tooth watercolor papers to emphasize the ephemeral quality. She holds a masters degree in Psychology and continues to write fiction and poetry as well as speak to groups about the impetus of creativity.

“When you start working, everybody is in your studio – the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas – all are there. But as you continue painting, they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you are lucky, even you leave.” ― John Cage

A note from the photographer:

I would like to mention a few of the places and interests that are dear to my heart.  The kind, dedicated and generous people of these organizations are worthy of support in their efforts to assist others.  I contribute with proceeds from the sales of my photography as well as other financial support, and I encourage you to get to know them.
